Satellite-powered Wi-Fi hotspots on American Airlines aircrafts

 

California-based company ViaSat will supply satellite-powered Wi-Fi hotspots to 100 American Airlines Boeing 737 MAX aircrafts to enable an exceptional in-flight Wi-Fi experience in September 2017.

California-based company ViaSat is bringing satellite-powered Wi-Fi to 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircrafts to provide exceptional flight experience for its customers by September 2017 - Wi-Fi onboard

American Airlines (A.A) struck a deal with ViaSat, a global broadband services and technology company based in California, to bring wireless internet connectivity to 100 of its aircrafts. Before strengthening ties with ViaSat, A.A. planes were equipped with a Wi-Fi connection by in-flight broadband internet service provider – Gogo Inc. However, as result of complains about the low internet speed aboard flights, American Airlines switched to ViaSat. ViaSat’s service works on an advanced high-capacity Ka-band satellite system that promises to deliver an in-flight Wi-Fi connection 8 to 10 times faster than any other in-flight Wi-Fi system in the market.  (more…)

Why Brazil is deploying public wireless networks

 

Public wireless networks are becoming an increasingly common and a much-needed amenity in Brazil, especially in larger cities like Sao Paulo.

As the fifth largest nation in the world, Brazil is classified as a developing country and ranks as the 8th economy of the world. Brazil’s development is mostly due to its embrace of new technologies and affordable access to modern services, like Wi-Fi. Public Wireless Networks are currently being deployed throughout the country in cafes, restaurants, airports and large public spaces. In order to expand internet coverage in larger cities like Sao Paulo, the government plans to install 300 Wi-Fi access points by the end of 2016. (more…)

Applications like Skype, Viber, Line and Facetime are already well-known because they do offer to their users VOIP services and video call features. Barcelona transforms into a smart city by introducing smart digital services that integrate new technologies and upgrade some of the city’s existing services and resources.

As a result of the BCN Smart City project, the City Council has developed solutions that provision smart digital services enabled by a connection to the Wi-Fi infrastructure. Some of these services include self-regulating street lighting, sensors measuring air quality and noise, smart parking, apps for discovering real-time events, smart bus stops and public Wi-Fi hotspots.
