Update on Ruckus Wireless acquisition by Brocade

 

In a previous article, we spoke about the $1.2 deal struck by Brocade to acquire Ruckus Wireless. To date, this deal continues to be one of the largest acquisitions in the recent years and is expected to close by the end of this month.

Thanks to this acquisition, Brocade Communications Systems Inc.’s product portfolio will expand, namely with wireless products, and it will now be able to compete
with the extensive product portfolios offered by larger networking companies like Cisco and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise. Before Ruckus’ acquisition, Brocade “lacked a viable wireless offering,” state Mark Hung, an analyst at Garner. (more…)

Dual polarity antennas for improved Wi-Fi connection

Nowadays, dual polarity antennas are proving useful for managed service providers, who wish to deploy APs in high-density locations.

When Internet users connect to a Wi-Fi network in high-density locations they expect to find high-performing Wi-Fi.  Some of these high-density locations include sports stadiums, offices, campuses, auditoriums, and other similar areas that require a good signal without interference.  In order to improve the Wi-Fi connection while setting up an infrastructure for a high-density environment, Managed Service Providers deploy APs in ceilings, on wall mounts, and under seats.

BYON: Create your own personal mobile network

 

Bring Your Own Network (BYON) is one of the latest trends among enterprise employees that consists of connecting devices to a personal mobile network. Although this practice can be beneficial for employees, companies must be wary of its potential security risks.

In our previous articles, we have explained what BYOD (“Bring Your Own Device”) is. Basically, BYOD is the existing trend of encouraging employees to work using their personal devices, such as their laptop and mobile phone. Meanwhile, BYON (“Bring Your Own Network”) is the latest BYO trend. It is considered an offshoot of the BYOD, as the idea is that the worker, that already uses his own devices at work, will now bring his own personal mobile network into the office.

Linksys will not block devices from 3rd party firmware

 

In the US, The FCC‘s new requirement about radio frequencies was implemented on June 2nd. Linksys said, that they will not protect their devices from flashing with 3rd party firmware.

The FCCis an independent agency of the US-government that regulates interstate communications by radio, wire, satellite, television, and cables in all 50 States. In 2015, the FCC declared it was going to change rules for the certification of radio frequency (RF) devices in order to prevent the modification of the radio module to prevent people from modifying a router’s radio module. The aim is to prevent radios from operating outside their licensed radio frequency.

The stock firmware of many devices can now be restored from the cloud.tanaza.com dashboard.

You now have total freedom to flash and un-flash your access points (if you don’t want to use Tanaza anymore).

 

Please consider that the capability of restoring the stock firmware from cloud is available only for some HW models and some firmware versions. Check this list for your model.
